Unfortunately many ideas are not patentable, especially if you are operating within the internet based technology segment. Whilst no one disputes about creating a barrier to entry, the organisers of such competitions ought to consider ideas if implemented timely could create a barrier to entry far greater than typical patented idea that may never succeed.
