a PC industry where…&lt;br /&gt;
-  broadband ISPs determined which PCs customers could buy&lt;br /&gt;
-  ISPs determined which applications a PC would use&lt;br /&gt;
-  creating applications involved mandatory certification, restrictive licensing and exclusivity&lt;br /&gt;
-  wifi was licensed spectrum (ahem, we paid how much for 3G?!)&lt;br /&gt;
-  could such an industry have given rise to the web &amp;amp; windows economy?&lt;br /&gt;
-  without openness, user-generated content, the web, wifi, open source and two decades of industry growth would’ve been much smaller&lt;/p&gt;
