There have been a number of high profile news stories in recent months which have highlighted the need for organisations to fully understand and adhere to the Data Protection Act.

The two most notable cases have involved British Gas and Humberside Police. Both organisations were registered with the Information Commissioner but both were accused of being over zealous in their interpretation of the act.
