Liberal Democrat Manifesto 2010

We’ve had 65 years of Labour
and the Conservatives: the
same parties taking turns and
making the same mistakes,
letting you down. It is time for
something different. It is time
for something better.

2010 Conservative Party Manifesto - Invitation to join the Government of Britain

A country is at its best when the bonds between people are strong and when the sense of national purpose is clear. Today the challenges facing Britain are immense. Our economy is overwhelmed by debt, our social fabric is frayed and our political system has betrayed the people. But these problems can be overcome if we pull together and work together. If we remember that we are all in this together.

Labour's 2005 manifesto - 102 broken promises

Ahead of the launch of Labour’s 2010 manifesto, a new analysis of their 2005 manifesto
shows that they have broken no fewer than 102 promises, including:

• ‘Full employment in every region and nation’
• ‘A 20 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions on 1990 levels by 2010’
• ‘We will end child poverty, starting by halving it ... by 2010-11’
• ‘Everyone up to the age of 19 should be learning’
• ‘All women will have choice over where and how they have their baby’
• ‘[Home ownership] to have risen by another million to two million’

The Labour Party Manifesto 2010

This General Election is fought as our troops
are bravely fighting to defend the safety of the
British people and the security of the world in
Afghanistan. They bring great pride and credit
to our country: we honour and will always
support them.
At the same time the world has been rocked by the
first great crisis of the new global economic age.

Protecting and Improving the NHS

The NHS is a source of pride because it’s built on the basic British
principle of fairness. We’re right to be proud of the NHS but the truth is
that it still isn’t as good as it should be: its often too big and complex,
too much money is being wasted on bureaucracy and doctors and
nurses spend too much time trying to meet government targets
instead of caring for patients.
Liberal Democrats are totally committed to the NHS. Free at the point
of use - care when you need it, regardless of your ability to pay. But that

Thriving in a Globalised World

Globalisation has brought enormous benefits to the UK, but we also recognise its
challenges: from an unbalanced economy over-reliant on particular industries, for
example, or to regions suffering from foreign competition, or to communities facing a
sudden influx of migrant labour. Unless government develops effective solutions to these
challenges, many people may come to see globalisation as a threat, rather than the
opportunity that it should be – particularly in the midst of a major recession.
This policy paper therefore sets out the Liberal Democrat response to the impact of

The Constitutions of the Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we
seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which noone
shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity
and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of
conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to
foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all

A Healthier Nation - Conservative Policy

There are two ways to respond to a problem. You can simply clear up the mess as best you can, or you can also work out
why the problem happened in the first place – and take steps to stop it from happening again. Across our policy plans, we
have chosen the common sense of the second option. It is our aim to treat the causes of our national problems as well as
their symptoms.
In our economy that means not just dealing with our debts, but setting up an Office of Budget Responsibility to help keep

Transforming NHS dentistry Innovating for higher standards and greater access to care - Conservatives Party

Conservatives are committed to working with front-line NHS professionals to
deliver world class healthcare for people. We want to transform NHS dentistry,
from a service currently in seemingly terminal decline to one people can trust, and
which delivers high standards of care to everyone who needs it.
Labour’s approach to micro-managing the NHS has been especially damaging for
dentistry. Bureaucratic changes in 2006 severed the patient-dentist relationship by
stopping people registering with local practices, instead contracting dentists to

NHS Autonomy and Accountability Proposals for legislation - Conservative Party

Improving the NHS is the Conservative Party’s number one priority. We want the NHS to succeed today and in the future, and believe that this requires an end to the pointless upheavals, politically-motivated cuts, increased bureaucracy and greater centralisation that have taken place under Labour. That is why we have brought forward this NHS Autonomy and Accountability
White Paper.
