Since the launch of the last Regional Economic Strategy (RES) in 2003, England’s Northwest has
made significant progress. During this time, the Agency has done much to provide economic
leadership and I am pleased to introduce this publication that outlines our most notable
achievements in 2005/6.
2005/06 was a critical year for the NWDA as the Agency was one of the first Regional
Development Agencies to be assessed by the National Audit Office (NAO). I am delighted that the
NWDA was awarded the highest ranking possible, ‘Performing Strongly’. The assessment

The last seven years have taught us much about how to achieve this growth. One of the most crucial lessons is that investing in significant transformational projects has the most impact on our economy and this is increasingly where the NWDA is focusing its attention.
