imagine
a PC industry where…
- broadband ISPs determined which PCs customers could buy
- ISPs determined which applications a PC would use
- creating applications involved mandatory certification, restrictive licensing and exclusivity
- wifi was licensed spectrum (ahem, we paid how much for 3G?!)
- could such an industry have given rise to the web & windows economy?
- without openness, user-generated content, the web, wifi, open source and two decades of industry growth would’ve been much smaller
Rather than speaking about a singularly staggering new insight into mobility, we chose to take the audience on a whistlestop tour of all the things we're finding interesting in the mobile space right now...from ethnography and UI innovations, to open platforms and open source hardware...essentially a playlist of the stuff we'd lined up for ETel 2008!
