Open Source' is a buzz phrase that has been used by analysts for the last 3-4 years. Reports from leading analysts like Gartner and Forrester will often list Open Source as the next big thing in technology along with SAAS (Sofware as a Service) and Virtualisation. If we believed all of these reports a lot of the technology we will be using in the near future will be based on open source and delivered as a service in a virtual environment, and maybe it will. For the moment all of these technologies are growing but are not mainstream in small and medium sized organisations.
