Royal Dutch Shell’s third quarter 2009 earnings, on a current cost of supplies (CCS)
basis, were $3.0 billion compared to $10.9 billion a year ago. Basic CCS earnings per
share decreased by 72% versus the same quarter a year ago.

Cash flow from operating activities for the third quarter 2009 was $7.3 billion, and
excluding net working capital movements, was $7.7 billion.
•
Net capital investment for the quarter was $7.4 billion. Total dividends paid to
shareholders during the third quarter 2009 were $2.7 billion.

While our primary focus continues to be on delivering oil and natural gas responsibly, we
also made progress developing renewable energy. In 2008, we increased our wind capacity
by nearly a quarter to 550MW, and will step up our efforts in sustainably sourced transport
biofuels with good CO2 performance.
In mid-2009, after some five years as Chief Executive, I shall hand over to Peter Voser,
currently our Chief Financial Officer. I wish Peter every success. I would also like to thank

Refinery availability of 91% and chemical plant availability
of 94%;
Disposal completed of two French refineries and the Berre- l’Etang refining and petrochemicals plant in France;
Construction progress on the 325,000 b/d expansion of the Motiva Port Arthur refinery in the USA (Shell interest 50%);
Construction of the new world-scale ethylene cracker and mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Singapore (Shell interest 100%).
