I am one of two founder trustees for The Abode Trust, an organisation registered in Sri Lanka to work with people in remote communities. We are currently very much involved in supporting two schools in remote communities and in helping to re settle four families who have been displaced because of an elephant attack earlier in the year. Please see our website: www.theabodetrust.com to find out all about us and our work.

I am interested in making contact with anyone who is connected to the Sri Lankan community or would like to be involved in our work.

As well, I work full time as a consultant for LCS Limited, (www.lcslimited.co.uk) mostly with the local authorities across the country as I have a background as an inspector with the Audit Commission and as a senior manger for several local authorities. Most of my work at the moment is around social care but I also specialise in performance management, value for money, organisational change, national evaluations of major initiatives and I have done meaningful work for the voluntary and disadvantaged communities.

I have Four Masters degrees:

Psychology
Organisational Development in the Public Sector
Writing
Teaching and Training Studies

And I have recently gained a credit for another Masters degree in Mentoring with Sheffield Hallam University.

The Abode Trust in Sri Lanka is working with people who have been forced to abandon their remote village in the Knuckles Mountains near Kandy because of an elephant attack. We need money to build new homes for three families and to set up ways of protecting them from future elephant attacks.

The Abode Trust in Sri Lanka have appealed for help to provide toilets for a school in Sri Lanka which has only one toilet for 1,048 people. The hot and humid conditions mean that this is a potential health risk for teachers and pupils. The Trust is also asking for help to find books and materials for a Tamil school in the north of the country where two teachers are struggling to work with 52 pupils of all ages with access to few materials.

Firmly committed to ethical and eco tourism, The Abode Trust works with and alongside local communities to bring the best of the west to the east without affecting the local culture. Visitors gain from learning about and valuing a way of life which is in complete harmony with nature.
