AUTO SERVICE TECHNOLOGY
I, II & III
Provides theory and hands-on experience in the
repair of the modern automobile. Preparation for the
ASE certification exam will include concentrated
study in brake systems, electrical systems, engine
performance, and suspension and steering systems.
**VWCC Dual Enrollment option.
BUILDING TRADES
(INTRODUCTION TO)
This course is designed to introduce 10th grade
students
to
the major careers
found
in
the
construction industry. Four areas are explored:
carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing and masonry.
Students will have actual hands-on experiences in
each of the four areas to help them decide which
trade they want to specialize in at Burton.
BUILDING TRADES I & II
Grade level: 11 and 12. The three areas of
carpentry, electrical wiring and plumbing comprise
the course of study in building Trades I & II. (Masonry
is a stand-alone course.) Students further their
studies in each of these fields and begin to specialize
in their highest area of interest. Actual hands-
onpractice gives the students valuable experience as
they develop their skills. As part of their work,
students will assemble floor, wall, and roof section
from plans as well as install electrical and plumbing
systems typically found in residential structures.
Students
in Building Trades II will have the
opportunity to CO-OP with Contractors in the
Roanoke area.

CAREER COOPERATIVE
EDUCATION (CCE)
Provides career training for the student unable to
obtain training through existing programs. Individual
training sites will be developed with local business
and industry to provide specific career training for
students working with professionals in chosen area.
