On 17 November 2004 the UN Development
Fund for Women awarded the 10,000 German
UNIFEM prize for women’s sustainable self-
help projects: “Food Security Worldwide –
Women in Agriculture” (honorary patron:
Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul). The
awards were for three projects undertaken by
women who under difficult conditions had
developed agricultural enterprises on their
own.
At a panel discussion on “Human and
Women’s Rights and the Practice of Law –
The Legal Situation and Realities in Iran” put
on by the German Women Lawyers’
Association on 11 December 2004, the Iranian
lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize laureate of
2003, Shirin Ebadi, described her experiences
in Iran.
The Forum of Contemporary History in Leipzig
has since its opening on 9 October 1999
established itself as a recognized and popular
venue in the heart of Leipzig: since the
opening in the autumn of 1999, over 74,000
guests have attended more than 800 events
held in the Forum. It is an active centre for
