FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Business Leader Sets Out on Two-Year Walk
around US in Celebration of Strong Families
Gulf Coast social entrepreneur will connect business leaders and
families in a fight to eradicate child maltreatment worldwide.
Houston, TX – January 13, 2010 – When Sapphire Jule King walks out of her Baytown
home Friday, Jan. 15, she will literally spend the next two years walking around the
United States during “Walk a Week in Your Shoes,” a collaborative, national campaign
organized by the International Freedom Coalition (IFC) to celebrate strong families. The
campaign serves as a way to bring awareness to child maltreatment by showcasing
healthy families. Additionally, the walk encourages business community support.
Reports of the new coalition, purposed to eradicate child maltreatment worldwide by
strengthening family units, were recently confirmed by King, CEO of Shalom Healing
Homes. According to King, preparation for the coalition started almost three years ago
when she traveled thousands of miles away from America to Spain during a 2-week
vacation that turned into a 2-year sabbatical. She founded IFC in 2009.
It’s a job she never planned to do, especially not alone. Thus, King formed the coalition
with two other Texas business leaders to address underlying issues that result to child
maltreatment. Areas of focus include personal transformation, women in transformation,
literacy, male leadership, youth development, and efficient social services. Each area is
led by leaders already working in the respective area. IFC invites all businesses,
churches, and organizations to join as affiliate members and/or ambassadors, in which
they may offer pro-bono services/products to support the cause.
