Free is offering a customisable Ring Back Tone free of charge
Freebox subscribers can now customise the tone heard by callers free of charge
Free has decided that the Ring Back Tone, which is the tone callers to a Freebox number
hear before the call is answered, can now be customised to play a different tone according to
the calling number. This service is free.
This new functionality means that a Freebox subscriber can replace the normal ringing tone
heard by one or more different callers with a sound (music, words, etc.) of his or her choice.
This is the first time subscribers have been able to create their own Ring Back Tones free of
This service can be configured very easily from the Freebox account management interface,
under the heading “Manage my telephone services”. The subscriber chooses a sound, which
may be music, sound effects, speech, etc. and allocates it to one or more telephone
Ten Ring Back Tones can be allocated to ten calling numbers, plus a generic Ring Back
Tone which is allocated to all calling numbers. The user can modify and personalise these
Ring Back Tones as often as he/she likes.
This service is available to all Freebox subscribers regardless of whether they are located in
unbundled (full or partial) areas or in areas which have still not been unbundled.
This new free service is an additional feature to the Freebox telephone service included in its
broadband package, provided at a cost of €29.99 per month, which includes unlimited calls
to landlines in 15 countries, including France, and fifteen or so other telephony services such
as voicemail, call forwarding, call screening, etc.
Trial offer subject to technical eligibility and acceptance of the general terms and conditions of sale as
of 10 April 2006. Calls are free from the Freebox to a France Télécom landline or another Freebox
number in mainland France, excluding short numbers, special numbers and third party LLOs.
