Welcome! WE are excited about teaching your child!
Thanks to ER Carpenter and Tupelo’s iCreate the Future initiative Milam’s Challenge
students will have many opportunities to create professional, digital products this year!
Composition is the big idea/
theme for the sixth grade Challenge
curriculum. All learning throughout
the year is geared toward teaching
students to improve the composition
of narrative, expository, and
persuasive writing; scientific,
historical, and descriptive research
projects and presentations; stock
portfolios; and creative products.
Students will discuss the various
definitions of composition at the
beginning of the year, and during
each unit students will actively
practice brainstorming, planning,
development, evaluation, and
revision as the steps to improve the
composition of all products.
We are excited about the E.R.
Carpenter I.M.A.G.I.N.E. (Inspiring
Minds and Guiding Instruction with
New and Exciting) Technology
grant. Technology will be
integrated into instruction daily as
we will utilize the MacBooks
provided by the school district and
the software and hardware provided
by E.R. Carpenter. We will
challenge students to design
professional, interactive products

We asked for few supplies this year
anticipating that many of our products
would be digital. Please make sure
that your child brings a pack of
notebook paper and a pack of
pencils to his or her Challenge class.
If your child is new to the TPSD
Challenge program, he or she will need an
11x14 Bienfang sketch pad. These can be
purchased at Office Max or Sta
