FAMILY COLYDIIDAE
(Cylindrical bark beetles)
Y. Bousquet
Only 20 species of colydiids are found in Canada. These species are usually found under bark, in galleries of wood-boring larvae, or in
fungi. Adults and larvae of many species are predators of wood-boring insects; others feed on rotten wood or on fungi; larvae of some species
are parasitic on various groups such as Scolytidae, Platypodidae, Cerambicidae and Buprestidae.
The North American species of colydiids are usually divided into two subfamilies, the Colydiinae which includes most of the species, and
the Bothriderinae. There is no recent taxonomic revision for this family.
