15th Annual Businesses for an Environmentally Sustainable Tomorrow:
City of Portland Recognizes Sustainable Companies with 10 BEST Awards
PORTLAND, Ore.—Twelve local companies and projects left the 15th Annual BEST Awards
Breakfast with this year’s top honors from the City of Portland's Office of Sustainable
Development. The BEST Awards recognize businesses demonstrating an extraordinary
commitment to sustainability. Portland City Commissioners Dan Saltzman and Erik Sten
presented the awards at the breakfast held today at the Oregon Convention Center.
“The point of the BEST Awards is to honor businesses that are redefining economic
opportunity and successfully incorporating sustainable business practices into their bottom
line,” added Commissioner Dan Saltzman. “Regardless of who goes home today with an
award, it is clear that all these companies and organizations are making significant
contributions to a healthy, prosperous future for our region.”
BEST Practices for Sustainability — Large Company
The Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center has initiated meaningful,
environmentally responsible changes to the way it does business, including installing
comprehensive energy and water efficiency programs and participation in food donation and
composting programs.
BEST Practices for Sustainability — Medium Company
Tualatin Valley Water District provides high quality water and maintains best-in-class
customer service to its community in a manner that protects the earth’s environment,
supports a strong economy and promotes a robust community.
