WASHINGTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--At their Annual Awards Luncheon on June 1, The Alliance for
Workplace Excellence (AWE) will recognize Akridge with their second annual EcoLeadership Award for
demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability. The Alliance established these awards in 2009, and
Akridge received last year's award as well.
EcoLeadership winners are selected for their efforts in energy efficiency, waste minimization, pollution prevention,
water conservation and environmentally conscious building operations, among other criteria. Sustainable practices
and initiatives undertaken by Akridge have included efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the company's
properties through innovative lighting, bathroom fixtures and recycling programs, as well as educational programs for
building clients and support of an internal Green Team.
According to AWE, "[Akridge's] leadership in sustainability is an inspiration to other employers."
Applicants for the EcoLeadership award undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent panel of
professors, PhD professionals, doctoral candidates in business, industrial and organizational psychology and human
resources. Akridge and other greater Washington, D.C.-area businesses will be honored with awards in three
categories at AWE's lunchtime ceremony on June 1 at the Bethesda North Marriott. More than 600 area business
