Dear Sir, Madam,
CONSULTATION ON GENERAL PRINCIPLES AND MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR
CONSULTATION OF INTERESTED PARTIES BY THE COMMISSION
The European Pet Food Industry Federation
(FEDIAF) welcomes
the
Commission's package of proposals concerning European governance. In particular, it
welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Communication launching a consultation
on a reinforced culture of consultation and dialogue and the planned proposal for
general principles and minimum standards for consultation of interested parties by the
Commission [Com (2002) 277 final].
FEDIAF was established in 1970 and represents the interests of 17 national pet
food industry associations before EU institutions and other international bodies. In all, it
represents the views and interests of around 450 European pet food producing
companies and supports a legislative framework for the production of safe, nutritionally
balanced and palatable high quality pet food. FEDIAF members provide a range of
carefully prepared products to help ensure long, healthy and active lives of millions of
pets in Europe, which are cared for in around 55 million pet keeping households.
ThM/ps/2002 (053) - 2.
FEDIAF has been a proactive consultation partner of the Commission for many
years.
It would like to reiterate and confirm its commitment and desire to continue to
contribute positively and actively to the policy- and law-making process in all areas that
affect directly and indirectly the pet food sector.
It therefore supports wholeheartedly
the Commission's avowed intention to make consultation more open, transparent,
accountable and
