¡BIENVENIDOS!
Welcome and congratulations on your acceptance to the OTS/Duke summer program
Introduction to Field Ethnobiology
We are confident that this summer will be one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences of your
college career! You will work in some of the world’s premier tropical research sites, see beautiful
animals and plants, meet friendly people, work hard, learn a lot, and have fun besides! Our group consists
of the students, 2 course coordinators, and teaching assistants. Numerous guests will also visit our group to
deliver lectures and lead field exercises. You will also have the opportunity to plan, develop, present, and
write your own independent project. In short, our group will interact with many people from diverse
backgrounds, and we expect that, with sensitivity to other people’s perspectives, you will learn a tremendous
amount and develop strong and lasting friendships.
This Orientation Packet contains very important information to help you prepare for your summer in Costa
Rica. You should read it carefully, follow the recommendations and suggestions we provide, and bring it with
you to Costa Rica. If you have any questions, please contact us! Contact information for OTS summer staff
and faculty are provided in this packet.
We are very much looking forward to having you on our program.
¡HASTA PRONTO!
