Tips
l Mark names after you have made proof corrections
l Store all index files in the same folder
– 04YB Ü Indexed Pages folder
l Changes you make in the index will not be reflected
on the actual PageMaker pages
l Create your index several times throughout the
school year
– Track which students are being pictured / mentioned and
how many times

Make Copies of PageMaker Files
l Locate and open the directory of your proofed
pages
l Highlight the PageMaker files
– Do not include picture folders
l Edit Ü Copy
l Locate and open the Indexed Pages folder
– 04YB Ü Index Pages
l Edit Ü Paste
l Changes made to the indexed PageMaker pages will
not be made on proofs

l Ignore All lost links

Mark the Names for Your Index
l Multiple Part Names (i.e. Mary Ann Moulton)
– Click and drag to highlight space between the words
you do not want to break (Mary and Ann)
– Insert a non-breaking space by typing:
l Windows: Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar
l Mac: Option + Spacebar
– Space will look the same

l Names – (i.e. Marsha Mahoney indexed as Mahoney, Marsha)
– Click and drag to highlight the name
l Be careful not to highlight space (or comma) after name
– Index the name by typing:
l Windows: Ctrl + Alt + y
l Mac: Command + Option + y
– A symbol will be placed
in front of the name
