Right-of-way clearing and planting
restrictions reduce power outages
ree limbs falling on electric
power lines is the number one
cause of power outages. Sumter EMC’s
top priority is to provide you with
reliable, affordable, uninterrupted
electric power. Sumter EMC has an
aggressive right-of-way clearing
program to keep tree limbs trimmed
away from the power lines, but we
still need your help.
The power line right-of-way
extends 20 feet from either side of
the lines. You can help reduce the
number of power outages in your
neighborhood by planting trees
and shrubs far enough beyond the
20-foot minimum to allow them to
grow to maturity without obstruct-
ing the power line right-of-way.
When we cannot avoid cutting
and trimming mature trees and
shrubs, we sincerely appreciate
your cooperation and support of
our efforts to maintain a safe, clear
right-of-way. Sumter EMC will try
to contact you if we need to trim
trees or shrubs or mow under-
brush on your property. If we
T
cannot contact you, we will leave a
notice on your door.
Planning ahead and working
together will help us keep your
power on, while you enjoy the
beauty and benefits of fully grown
trees and shrubs on your property.
