DEPARTMENT: Animal Services
The incumbent in this position will be responsible for coordinating and managing the volunteer
program for Animal Control with emphasis on pet adoption. Duties will also include community
relations as it relates to Animal Control and pet adoption.
Assess animal behavior, physical condition and temperament to help determine adoptability;
Develop, coordinate and manage a volunteer, fostering and adoption program with emphasis on
Coordinate with local and regional animal rescue and adoption agencies to increase the number
of pet adoptions;
Photograph adoptable animals in order to place adoptions ads in local newspapers, on the
internet and for email inquiries;
Formulate creative descriptions of animal to coincide with photographs;
Lead and assist with public relations in order to improve community relations and increase pet
Handle animals of all species and breeds;
Assist the kennel staff with testing, preparation and delivery of animals to adopters and rescue
Transport animals to and from the veterinarian, as needed;
Maintain records and required paperwork pertaining to animals kept at the facility;
Communicate with public and County employees regarding the animals and various other
Animal Control issues as they pertain to adoption;
Perform all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to read and comprehend simple
instructions, short correspondence and memos. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
