From CFUM: Children and Family Urban Ministries
The Invitation is a newssheet designed to keep
partners up to date on current needs and
opportunities at CFUM.
An Invitation to Awesome Fall Days
Three weeks of Awesome Fall Days means twenty-
one days of opportunities to get families through the
day and children down the road. The families CFUM
serves are working families that do not have the
resources to provide expensive before or after
school care for their children. Providing a safe and
nurturing place for them to be during a three-week
school break is critical.
At least 45 students will be served by Awesome Fall
Days, September 24-October 12. Daily academic
enrichment, creative and recreational activities, and
six field trips are being planned. The trips include
Grinnell and Central Colleges, Neal Smith Wildlife
Refuge, Saylorville Nature Center, Living History
Farms and the Water Reclamation Facility. Lunch at
Ryan’s Steakhouse would be a special treat at the
end of the program. In addition to staff costs, the
expenses for the program include bus rental for the
field trips ($110 per trip), admission into Living
History Farms ($180), lunches ($50-$90 per day),
and that special treat of lunch out ($300).
If you would like to contribute to those costs,
provide lunch, or volunteer please contact Janelle
Mueller at email@example.com or 282.3242.
An Invitation to the WILD Girls Fall Retreat
October 8-10 the WILD Girls will head to Wesley
Woods Camp for their fall retreat. It’s a time to
welcome new girls to the gender-specific program
for middle school girls. It’s a time to introduce some
girls to new, challenging experiences like canoeing
and horseback riding. It’s a time to begin the hard
work of putting foundations under wild dreams.
Food is a big part of any such gathering. We are
looking for volunteers to provide breakfast
casseroles, fresh fruit, orange juice, milk, sandwich
fixins, lasagna, salad, garlic bread, dri
