Report on Heating and Cooling In Reactors
Reactions are exothermic or endothermic. Exothermic reactions give away Heat and Endothermic
takes in heat. Some reactions take place only at higher temperatures only. All these requirements are
to be fulfilled by the Reaction vessel. This is generally done by providing
Jacket - In reactors, heating and cooling jackets are used to remove heat from exothermic reactions
or provide the needed heat required to produce the desired endothermic reactions. Steam jackets
that operate at high pressures can pose safety issues, especially when hazardous chemical process
equipment are being used within the reactor.
Outer Limpet Coil – A limpet coil, which is part of a limpet coil reactor, is created by welding half
a pipe around the outside of a pressure vessel. The temperature in the limpet coil helps control the
temperature (heating or cooling) of the element inside the pressure reactor.
Internal Coil – An internal coil is a heating or cooling circuit that is inside the industrial reactor. In
addition, the reactor coil will increase the heat transfer coefficient.
Electric Heat Pads – Electric Hot Water Bag used to provide warmth, typically whilst in bed, but
also for the application of heat to a specific part of the body. It is a high quality reliever from aches
in cold climatic conditions. Gives relief from pain and makes you feel comfortable.
Immersed Electrical Heaters - Electric immersion heaters are typically inserted directly into a
pipe, tank, or vessel to heat process gases or liquids. Since the heat is generated by electricity,
virtually all of the energy is consumed by the product being heated.
Jacket and coils can fulfil requirement of heating and cooling, Reactor manufacturer Heating can be
done with Hot Water, Steam and Hot Oil or thermal fluid, Cooling is done with Cooling tower
water, Chilled water or Doled brine. Sometimes reactors requirement is initial heating and then
when the reaction starts cooling. In this case Jacket req
