Accurately setting up the Electric Guitar Intonation
Trust me; every guitarist craves for at least some degree of acknowledgement and appreciation.
But that comes only to those who know their art well. Every artist wants to be well known in his
chosen field of arts. This is especially true in the case of electric guitar players, who are usually
great performers too. Imagine being on stage, the crowd swooning to your tunes and the evil
strikes! Your guitar is not in fine tune! Well, you can very well avoid the nightmare by simply
setting up your electric guitar intonation right.
To start with, your electric guitar intonation basically means the strings of your instrument must
vary in length so that when played, the guitar produces the perfect sound. So by default, your
electric guitar intonation would be correct when each string of your electric guitar would be of
the same length as it is required to be to produce perfect pitch. Every string has a saddle which is
mounted with a screw. Thus, to set the intonation right, you need to turn the screw which in turn
will move the saddle to give apt length to the string.
But how would you know that now is the right time to set up your electric guitar intonation?
Well obviously you’ll need to adjust the intonation if it has not been done over a long period of
time. If you have recently adjusted your instrument’s truss rods, then also you need to set the
intonation right.
Furthermore, if you can’t keep playing your chords right and nothing sounds right, then you’d
better buck up and set that intonation right. And if you have got yourself brand new guitar
strings, then also don’t forget to adjust the intonation of your instrument. If you know your
instrument inside out then you may well do the adjusting task
