VEDIC MATHEMATICS
Vedic mathematics helps in speed and accuracy in
solving numerical problems,
thereby preparing
school children to overcome the “fear of
mathematics” and the students to succeed in
competitive exams. This system of mental calculation
was developed by
which
he claimed he had based on a lost appendix of
Atharvaveda, an ancient text of the Indian teachings
called Veda. Through the Vedic system 'difficult'
problems or huge sums can often be solved
immediately. Any student can learn the basic
principles and methods of Vedic Mathematics,
Shri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji
and
apply
them in problems relating to Addition,
Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Square, Square
Root and Cube Root. Besides,
there
is no
dependency on instruments such as the calculator or
an abacus.
Origin of Vedic Mathematics
Application of Vedic Mathematics
It helps the students to solve mathematical
problems about 15 times faster
We can find the answer without actually solving
the problems
It reduces burden on the student as he/she has to
know tables up to five only
It
reduces finger counting, rough work and
improves mental calculation
Improves concentration
Logical thinking process gets enhanced
Students can invent their own methods; they are
not limited to one 'correct' method. This leads to
more creativity
Square of Numbers ending in 5
Squares of 25, 35, 45, 85, 95, 105, 195 etc, can
be worked out mentally.
The Sutra used here is
which means,
The last term is always 5 and the previous terms
are 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 19 etc and we have to add 1 to them.
Square of the last term 5 is always 25.
Ekadhikena Purvena
"One more than the previous”.
Thus the square of 25 is 2x3/25 = 625
The square of 35 is 3x4/25 = 1225
The square of 45 is 4x5/25 = 2025
The square of 85 is 8x9/25 = 7225
The square of 95, 105, and 195 can be obtained in
the same way.
The square of 95 is 9x10/25 = 9025
The square of 105 is 10x11/25 = 11025
The square of 195 is 19x20/25 = 38025
