Senate Democrats’ Legislative Caucus Facebook Page Reaches More Than
LANSING, Mich. - Today Michigan Senate Democrats announced that the state's first
ever legislative caucus Facebook page has attracted more than 2,000 fans since its
launch in late January of this year. Democrats created the Facebook page to keep
Michigan citizens informed with up-to-date information on important legislation, issues of
interest, and upcoming events. Current highlights on the page include information on
the Senate Democrat's efforts to help unemployed workers and a poll where you can
show your support for the unemployment modernization legislation.
Senate Democrats have also launched a Twitter page and a Facebook Cause page for
‘Hire Michigan First,’ legislation that would offer incentives for companies who hire
Michigan workers. Only a handful of other caucuses across the country are using these
social networking sites at this point. The Senate Democratic Caucus was also the first
caucus in Michigan to start a blog on their website several years ago.
To help drive support for displaced workers, the Senate Democrats also launched a
new website that calls for action on a plan that would secure $138.9 million to help
Michigan’s unemployed citizens. The site,
www.senate.michigan.gov/dem/helpmiworkers, encourages visitors to sign a petition
and contact Republican Senators to demand support for the legislation.
