HERITAGE PARK
Opening Day at Jacobs Field today will mark the grand opening of Heritage Park, the new home of the Indians
Hall of Fame. Heritage Park, located behind the center-field fence, will be open before, during and after games,
allowing fans to stroll through and remember some of the top players and moments in Indians history.

The bowed brick
wall on the lower
level of the park
is embedded with
100 small plaques,
one for each player
selected in 2001 as
the best 100 players
in the Indians’ first
century (see below).
On the wall to the left is a plaque from League
Park, the team’s old home, commemorating
second baseman Ray Chapman. On Aug.
16, 1920, Chapman was hit in the head and
knocked unconscious by a pitch thrown by the
Yankees’ Carl Mays, and died 12 hours later,
becoming the only player ever to die from
injuries incurred in a major-league game.
