Cholesterol – the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
It is common knowledge that high cholesterol levels can contribute to heart
disease, the number one killer in North America. However, while certain kinds
of cholesterol can have negative effects on heart health, other kinds can be
beneficial. High density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is commonly referred to
as “good” cholesterol. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is the bad guy.
Excessive LDL cholesterol can contribute to plaque formation and arterial
damage. LDL cholesterol is especially dangerous if it becomes oxidized.
Herbs for the Heart
Many herbs and plant extracts have been shown to be beneficial for lowering
and balancing cholesterol levels. Berberine, artichoke leaf, guggulsterones
(from Commiphora mukul), ferulic acid and theaflavin are all compounds
obtained from plants that have been demonstrated to have significant
cholesterol lowering effects. All have been shown to reduce both total
cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. Berberine and Commiphora mukul have
also been associated with increased HDL cholesterol levels. Several of these
compounds, including berberine, theaflavin and ferulic acid, are powerful
antioxidants and prevent the formation of harmful oxidized LDL cholesterol.
A Natural Solution
AOR’s De Cholest includes a synergistic combination of natural ingredients that
work together to protect blood vessels and assist in the prevention of plaque
build-up in the arteries. These ingredients work through complimentary
mechanisms to balance cholesterol levels; lowering the levels of “bad” (LDL)
cholesterol while increasing the levels of “good” (HDL) cholesterol.
• Lowers LDL and raises HDL cholesterol
• Prevents the formation of arterial plaque
• Protects blood vessels from damage
