FAMILY CORYLOPHIDAE
(Minute fungus beetles)
J.M. Campbell
Members of this small family of about 435 species are found in all major faunal regions, but only 10 species are known to occur in
Canada. Adults are usually collected in moldy leaf litter and piles of grass cuttings. Adults and larvae are thought to feed on fungal spores.
The taxonomy of the Canadian corylophid species is poorly known; reliable species identification is not possible at this time and a number
of species have yet to be discovered. The last revision covering the North American species of Corylophidae was that of Casey (1900). The
classification adopted here is that of Paulian's (1950) reclassification of the Old World taxa.
