In November 2008, New York’s seasonally
adjusted unemployment rate was 6.1 per-
cent, up from 5.7 percent in October 2008.
(The nation’s unemployment rate was 6.7
percent in November.) In November 2008,
the state had 8,736,900 nonfarm jobs, in-
cluding 7,219,700 private sector jobs, af-
ter seasonal adjustment. The number of
private sector jobs in the state decreased
by 0.3 percent from October, while the U.S.
private sector job count decreased by 0.5
percent. From November 2007 to Novem-
ber 2008, the number of private sector
jobs decreased by 0.6 percent in the state
and decreased by 2.0 percent in the U.S.
(not seasonally adjusted). In addition, New
York’s Index of Coincident Economic Indi-
cators decreased in November.
