iSeries (AS/400) Application Transformation and Evolution
P 1 of 2
Java for iSeries and AS/400 Cobol Programmers
Description:
Based on the popular "Java(tm) for S/390® and AS/400® COBOL
Programmers", by Phil Coulthard and George Farr, this unique course is
designed very specifically for the RPG programmer and will focus on what is
required to implement Java solutions in an iSeries and AS/400 environment.
We learn best when we can relate new material to our experience. While most
courses described as “Introduction to Java for Mainframe Programmers” are
simply introductory courses targeted at anybody who has some previous
procedural programming experience, this offering relates java programming
techniques and activities directly to the RPG programmers experience.
It will provide an understanding of the components required for Java
development that target the iSeries and AS/400, or Java running on a client
connected to an iSeries and AS/400; including the role of Java as an iSeries and
AS/400 programming language versus RPG, COBOL, C, C++, or Visual Basic. At
the completion of the course, you will have gained an understanding of basic
Java concepts and competency at writing, compiling, and running Java programs
using the Java Development Kit.
Audience:
Cobol programmers looking to implement Java solutions.
