Prop ideas: Bibles, Bible Reference Books – use to show that Nicodemus was a
man who studied the scripture a lot. He knew a lot… just not the most important
thing… salvation is a simple matter of belief.
There was once a man named Nicodemus. He was a Pharisee. They
knew a lot about the scriptures. They studied them all the time. They
were even so smart that they could teach other people about God’s
scripture. Sadly, they knew the laws and how to follow them, but
many of them missed the real thing: how to know and love God.
Nicodemus watched Jesus teaching others. He saw some miracles
Jesus had done. He believed that Jesus was a true teacher of God. He
wanted to know more about Jesus. But what would his Pharisee
friends say? They did not like Jesus and his new way of teaching.
Nicodemus decided to visit Jesus at night, when others could not see
him. He said to Jesus, “I know you must be a prophet of God. No one
else could do the miracles you do without God.” He wanted to know
more. He wanted to know what it would take to see the kingdom of
heaven. Jesus answered, “You must be born again.” Born again? How
could a grown man or woman become a baby again? That seemed
impossible! It was just the opposite; it is simple to be born again.
Jesus was not talking about our bodies, but about our spirit. All you
must do is believe that Jesus is the son of God and our Savior. Today’s
bible verse is probably the most well known verse in the world. It tells
us how to be born again.
