About the House September 2007
Celebrating 20 years
In September 1987 the House of Representatives
established a system of nine general purpose standing
committees that allow the House to consider
and report upon the full range of activity by the
Commonwealth government. To mark the 20th
anniversary, a seminar will be held at Parliament
House on Friday 15 February 2008. The date has been
chosen to avoid the likely election period. The seminar
will consider themes of achievements and challenges,
community participation and member education, and
future directions for House committees. For further
details on the seminar contact Glenn Worthington by
emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phone
(02) 6277 4465.
Next year Parliament House turns 20. The building
was opened by the Queen on 9 May 1988. To
celebrate the anniversary,
