2007 was a significant year for our
United Way. On July 1, 2007 United Way
of Western Connecticut was formed as
the result of merging the three United
Ways of Stamford, Northern Fairfield
County and Housatonic/Shepaug. The
driving force behind this integration was
always the opportunity to improve lives
in a more meaningful way.
Before the merger, each of
our three United Ways had
its own board of directors
looking at local issues and
making decisions locally.
The new United Way of
allows us to think on a
regional level and then
execute local efforts to

continue to focus on local
priorities, concentrating on identifying
community needs, building long term
funding sources and allocating resources
to local service programs.
Our promise has been to keep a local
presence in all three communities,
ensuring our donors that their dollars
are spent in their local community.
And we have done that.
As we look to our future, it includes a
bold vision - and requires you to be part
of it. When we reach out a hand to one,
we influence the condition of all. We all
