1. Description of Module:
The module aims to: provide the student with an understanding of:
1.
the role of the Medical Laboratory in the assessment of disease,
with particular reference to specified disease states
2.
the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to medical
diagnosis and patient care
2.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the module, the student is expected to be able to:
1. Outline the major approaches to specimen collection, handling and quality assurance and
the major hazards to safety in the biomedical science laboratory and the strategies aimed at
their prevention
2. Demonstrate understanding of the role of the biomedical science laboratory in the
diagnosis and management of disease
3. Discuss the various forms of health screenin
