David Larkin Cheatheam
David Larkin Cheatheam, 77, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Beacon Baptist Church with Bob
Cheatheam, his son, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox-
LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Mr. Cheatheam was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Tell to Llannis and Willie Avery
Cheatheam. He married Lois Ward of Pittsburgh on April 3, 1953, in Amarillo.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He worked for Santa Fe Railway as a locomotive engineer from 1950 until his
retirement in 1987. He loved woodworking, making furniture, chuck wagons and
He was a longtime member of Will Rogers Range Riders, where he was active
with the rodeo and trail rides and was a past member of the board of directors. He
loved playing the harmonica around the campfire and telling long-winded stories.
He also loved spending time with his two dogs, Maggie and Shorty. He loved his
Lord and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Nuwell and Denton.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Cheatheam; a daughter, Melody Griffin of Amarillo; two sons, Bill Cheatheam and wife Shan of Amarillo and
Bob Cheatheam and wife Amy of Abilene; four brothers, Sam Cheatheam of Amarillo, Claude Cheatheam of Bedford, Carroll Cheatheam of
Childress and Harold Cheatheam of Stephenville; a sister, Pat Elliott of New Orleans; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren
The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter St., Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106.
