Scope and Purpose:
This standard is established to assist the Fire Department in the safeguarding our customers, and the firefighters that
protect them, from the hazards of fire, hazardous materials, and natural disasters through the standardization of
requirements for Fire Alarm and Detection systems within the City of Bothell.
Code Authority:
NFPA 71, 72, UBC Chapter 9, and the Uniform Fire Code Article 10 sets the minimum requirements for fire alarm and
detection systems. Bothell Municipal Code (BMC) 20.10 sets, in most cases, more restrictive requirements for the
installation of fire alarm and detection systems.
Permit Requirement:
All fire alarm and detection systems shall be approved and installed under a permit from the Fire Prevention Bureau of
Bothell Fire & E.M.S.
WHERE REQUIRED:
Fire alarm and detection systems, conforming to all of the requirements of NFPA 72 and the (Bothell Fire Department
Fire Alarm Policy) shall be installed within buildings located within the City of Bothell under the following circumstances:
Group “A” Occupancies:
Any Group “A” Occupancy that is not protected by a complete fire sprinkler system. BMC 20.10.
Any Group “A Division 1, 2, 2.1” Occupancies shall be provided with a manual fire alarm system in accordance
with Article 10 Section 1007.2.2 of the Uniform Fire Code.
Exception: A fully sprinklered building the fire sprinkler system may activate the pre-recorded message. (UFC
1007.2.2.1).
Group “B” Occupancies:
Any Group “B” Occupancy that is not protected by a complete fire sprinkler system. (BMC 20.10).
