Inside CBMT
THE CERTIFICATION BOARD
FOR MUSIC THERAPISTS
>> This	is	an	exciting	time	at
the	CBMT,	and	I	am	honored
to	serve	this	year	as	Chair	of
CBMT’s	Board	of	Directors.
First,	I	would	like	to	extend	a
great	deal	of	appreciation	to
former	Board	members	Lee
Anna	Rasar,	Michael	McGuire,
and	Ada	Bors.	As	the	Board’s
public	member,	Ada	repre-
sented	our	consumers	and
the	general	public	and	added
a	great	deal	to	our	process	in
this	regard.	Both	Lee	Anna
and	Michael	served	the	cer-
tificants	as	board	members	for
five	years,	and	for	the	past	two
years,	Michael	served	as	Chair
of	the	Board	of	Directors.	Both
Lee	Anna	and	Michael	encour-
aged	a	transparent	approach	to
our	strategic	planning	process,
and	as	Chair,	Michael	led	the
way	in	helping	to	ensure	a	posi-
tive	working	relationship	with
AMTA.	This	vision	of	openness,
collaboration,	and	transparency
continue	with	the	CBMT,	and
we	are	all	dedicated	in	support-
ing	the	certificants	in	this	way.
>> Our	relationship	with
AMTA	continues	to	be	strong
as	we	collaborate	on	regula-
tory	affairs	issues	to	accom-
plish	impressive	work	in	this
area.	Namely,	we	are	making
strides	with	legislative	issues
in	California,	are	working	in
conjunction	with	the	New
Jersey	State	Task	Force	on
music	therapy-related	legis-
lative	issues,	and	continue
to	work	with	all	the	groups
involved	in	the	New	York
licensure	situa-
tion	as	we	push
for	exemption
language	to
protect	bac-
calaureate
trained	cer-
tificants.	AMTA
and	CBMT
work	together
on	a	variety	of
other	impor-
tant	issues
to	promote
music	ther-
apy,	address	reimbursement
issues,	and	assist	certificants
with	advocacy	issues.	O
