SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 2004-889 APPROVING THE
ACQUISITION OF FOUR (4) LOS ANGELES COUNTY TAX-DEFAULTED
PROPERTIES IN OLD TOPANGA AND CALABASAS HIGHLANDS IN THE
AMOUNT OF $38,890 PLUS ADMINISTRATION COSTS (ASSESSOR
PARCEL NUMBERS 2072-020-004; 2072-030-020; 2080-015-022 AND
JULY 7, 2004
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 2004-889 approving
the acquisition of four (4) Los Angeles County tax-defaulted properties in Old Topanga
and Calabasas Highlands in the amount of $38,890 plus administration costs (Assessor
Parcel Numbers 2072-020-004; 2072-030-020; 2080-015-022 and 2080-015-023).
On a bi-annual basis the County of Los Angeles Tax Collector sends the City a list of
tax-defaulted properties in the County. The properties on the list are subject to the
Power of Sale under the State Revenue and Taxation Code. Under Section 7 of the
Code, unless a public or non-profit agency expresses an interest in writing in acquiring
the tax-defaulted properties within 30 days of publication of the list such properties will
be subject to a public auction.
There are two (2) Calabasas properties on the current list (2004B) that staff is
recommending the City Council consider for purchase. The deadline for notifying the
County of the City’s interest in any of the parcels on the 2004B list is June 30, 2004.
Since this deadline was prior to the next available Council meeting in which budget
funds were available, the City Manager authorized submittal of a written letter of intent
to cause the removal of these two parcels from the list.
The other two parcels that staff is requesting authorization to purchase are parcels that
were listed on the 2003B tax sale. While these parcels were included in a staff report
