'There is no longer a viable audience for print-based news.' Do you agree?
I disagree with the statement that “There is no longer a viable audience for print-based
news.”
I believe that there is still a wide range of audiences that prefer print-based news rather
than web-based news. Older generations that are digital immigrants, who moved into
digitalized environment, would often feel more comfortable with the traditional print-based
news. However, this could be argued as there is a growing population of digital natives,
who grew up in digitalized environment, and feels very comfortable with the use of
technology, which will cause the demand for print-based news is descending.
For print-based news, Internet connection is not required in order for readers to read news.
This could be advantageous to readers in developing countries, who may not have access
to the Internet as internet penetration is more common in some area rather than others.
This could be argued that as the world begins to advance technologically by day, the
spread of the access to Internet is increasing globally. This would be further argued that
audiences for print-based news would eventually shift to reading news online. Many
people can also see the print-based news as beneficial as the reader is browsing through
the newspaper for the article they are interested in, they are more likely to read through
other articles on the newspaper. Web-based news, however may be beneficial as it is
more efficient for readers to search for the article they want by using the search tool which
is available on many online news website as well as the categorized and catalogued areas
for readers, many would argue that this would lead the “dumbing down” of the general
population as news becomes entertainment rather than surveillance for the readers. It is
also argued that the global awareness of the general population would descend due to
readers only reading articles that interest them.
Print-based news is also relatively more portable compare
