Church of Scientology of London Fights Drug Abuse and Addicti
The Church of Scientology of London launched a major anti-drug offensive last
volunteers of many faiths and backgrounds distributed more than 8,000 drug-ed
five London neighborhoods that are notorious for drug use
05.20.2009 – One common purpose united the diverse group—to help young
Londoners avoid the tragedy of drug abuse and addiction by letting them know the
truth about drugs.
Sikhs, Christian ministers and Scientologists, sports figures, teachers, social
workers and students worked together to distribute The Truth About Drugs booklets
in Newham, Southwark, Dartford, Romford and Southall.
The volunteers were spurred on by reports that drug and alcohol abuse were the
common denominator in the recent spate of vicious and deadly knife attacks around
In Newham, a local gym owner used The Truth About Drugs booklets in a lecture on
health, fitness and the dangers of drugs.
A volunteer who helps ex-offenders handed out some 500 booklets In Southwark,
because she is “very aware of the fact that drugs are the starting point of criminality.”
In Romford, two teachers pitched in, getting local shops to support the campaign.
They distributed over 1,000 booklets and kept another thousand to give to the pupils
in their schools.
Drug abuse and the crime it fosters cost private citizens, businesses and
government hundreds of millions of pounds annually. The Church of Scientology of
London is proud to play a role in uniting volunteers in their city to make a difference
by educating youth on the truth about drugs.
