EMAS Online Accredited Course: Getting EMA right.
This section details the content of our Online Accredited Course which will launch in January 2007. You must complete
three modules (six units). Modules 1 and 2 are compulsory. You have a choice between Modules 3 and 4. Module 4 is
designed to reflect Module 3 but with a strong emphasis on the 'Early Years' phase.
Course fees: £60 per unit or £300 for the full course of three modules (six units).
Assessment: Candidates must complete three (3) full assignments chosen from the units they have studied. A further 3
short tasks must be completed for the remaining three units.
Level 2 Certificate: ‘Ethnic Minority Achievement’.

Module 1 (Compulsory)
Unit 1: Ethnic Minority Achievement: The big picture, from data to actions.
In this unit students will be made aware of the key issues in the national debate in the achievement of minority ethnic
pupils. They will be shown the range of national and local data available on the achievement of minority ethnic pupils.
Students will learn the most effective ways of analysing and using data for effective action planning.
Students can show their understanding of the key issues in ethnic minority achievement.

Unit 2: Bilingualism and Language Development: Planning for Bilingual Learners
The aim of this unit is to raise awareness of key issues in bilingualism and language development. The importance of
first language development will be highlighted, together with the transfer of knowledge and skills. In planning for
bilingual learners the focus will be on balancing content with sufficient context, drawing on a range of strategies.
