17. SUBJECT: Heavy Equipment Safety Program
REGULATORY STANDARDS: 29 CFR 1910.67; 1910.68; 1910.178.
BASIS: Every employee is entitled to work in an environment free of recognized
hazards. The Heavy Equipment Safety Program will establish guidelines to
prevent or eliminate hazards that can cause injury to workers or damage to
property and equipment. Primary responsibility for implementation for the Heavy
Equipment Safety Program is the office of facilities management. All affected
supervisory personnel and employees shall be accountable for the safe operation
of any equipment used by them or a contractor at our job sites. All affected
employees will be informed of and trained in the Heavy Equipment Safety
Program.
GENERAL: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will ensure that all potential
hazards regarding heavy equipment used at our facility or job sites are
evaluated. This standard practice is intended to address comprehensively the
issues of; evaluating and identifying potential deficiencies, evaluating the
associated potential hazards, communicating information concerning these
hazards, and establishing appropriate procedures, and protective measures for
employees.
