Roy Tankersley
Roy Tankersley in a music graduate of Victoria
University, where his performance tutor was
Maxwell Fernie. He completed Post Graduate
Studies at the Guildhall School of Music with
Nicholas Danby (organ) and Mary Verney
(harpsichord). On returning to New Zealand
he lived in Wellington where for ten years
conducted the Wellington Bach Choir, was HOD
Music at Tawa College and was a member of
The Wellington Baroque Ensemble that toured
throughout Australasia. Roy has also resided
in Dunedin and Gisborne where he with choirs,
directed opera, appeared as a soloist with
orchestra on organ and harpsichord. Roy has
held various church posts throughout New
Zealand and in London. Until recently he was
Director of Music at Samuel Marsden Collegiate
School in Wellington.
The family moved to Palmerston North in 2003
where Roy is a free lance performer and teacher.
Roy continues to present concerts on organ
and harpsichord and this year guest conducted
the Manawatu Sinfonia in a programme of New
Zealand and Australian music. He is Musical
Director of the parish of St Marks and St Andrews
and directs the Manawatu Youth Choir and the
Schola Sacra Choir of Wanganui.
Eugene Lavery
Eugene was born in Palmerston North in 1985
but spent most of his formative years in Nelson.
He was appointed Organ Scholar at Christ Church
Cathedral, Nelson in 1997. In 2003 Eugene was
appointed Belinda Godfrey Memorial Organ
Scholar at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland.
In 2005 he completed a Bachelor of Music
degree in Organ Performance at the University
of Auckland where his teacher was Dr. John
Wells.
