Chris Rayner Memorial
Coaching Excellence Award
The Chris Rayner Memorial Coaching Excellence Award recognizes a Church
Athletic League coach for his/her outstanding contribution to the development of
Church Athletic League players.
This Award is presented annually by the Rayner Family in memory of Chris.
Chris was an outstanding and enthusiastic player with St. John’s (Anglican) in the
1960's and 70's. He was a dedicated CAL coach in the seventies and eighties,
coaching his first team when he was fourteen years old. Chris became the CAL’s
youngest president in 1994. After moving away from Kingston for work, Chris
would drop by Harold Harvey Arena whenever he was in town, just to see how
the League was doing.
Criteria – Who Can Be Nominated
• a current, certified, hockey coach in the CAL who has demonstrated
excellent coaching leadership
• demonstrates and promotes the goals of the CAL:
- creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, appreciation,
fun and understanding among all participants
- encouraging the development of good character though
their leadership
- ensuring that all participants are treated fairly, regardless
of ability

fosters positive team spirit and fair play
• demonstrates respect for all participants including players on all teams,
fellow coaches and game officials
• provides a positive and supportive hockey experience, developing the
skills and building the character of his/her players in a fun environment.
Nomination and Award selection process
Follow the instructions and complete the nomination form
Submit nominations to the C.A.L. office by May 19, 2009.
An Award Selection Committee will be appointed by the CAL Board of Directors.
The Award will be presented at the C.A.L. Annual Meeting in May/June.
