Bible Story for children:
Focus: Jesus is a friend to everyone
Jesus was passing through a city called Jericho. A man named Zacchaeus
lived in this town. Zacchaeus had a lot of money because he was a tax
collector. Tax collectors were known for taking money that wasn’t theirs.
When Zacchaeus heard that Jesus was in Jericho, he wanted to see Him, but
Zacchaeus was a short man and he wasn’t able to see Jesus through the
crowd. Instead, Zacchaeus climbed to the top of a sycamore tree so he could
see Jesus. When Jesus passed by the tree, He stopped, looked up and said,
"Zacchaeus, come down from that tree. I want to go and stay at your house
today." Zacchaeus was excited and climbed down from the tree immediately.
But other people were upset. Tax collectors were not good people and they
thought it was terrible for Jesus to spend time with someone like him. But
Jesus loved Zacchaeus because Jesus loves everyone! Zacchaeus was sorry
for all the wrong things he had done and he promised Jesus that he would
give back all the money he had taken from people.
Jesus was a good friend to Zacchaeus and he is a good friend to us too. The
Bible tells us “A friend loves at all times.” So no matter what we do, Jesus
will always love us. Doesn’t that make you smile?
Option 2 – Tell the story from the trees’ perspective.
When finished with activities, return
all necessary items to bag and place
in the hallway for pickup.
