Invitation to Tender for Hosting of ESSIR 2011 Summer School
----
The Steering Committee of the European Summer School on Information
Retrieval (ESSIR) invites interested parties to submit bids to host ESSIR in
2011. Further details on ESSIR can be found at http://ims.dei.unipd.it/essir/home.html
ESSIR is a five-day Summer school (Monday to Friday), which has significantly increased
in size in the past few years, and is now organised every 2 years. The target audience of
the Summer School is advanced undergraduate students, PhD students, post-doctoral
researchers, academic and industrial researchers, and developers. The ESSIR Summer School
gives participants a grounding in the core subjects of IR - architectures,
algorithms, formal theoretical models of IR, and evaluation theory and practice - as well as
covering the development of some of the more recent topics. It also provides an opportunity
for participants to discuss a wide variety of IR topics with each other, and with the lecturers on
the course.
ESSIR 2011 will be the 8th European School in Information Retrieval.
The first one, ESSIR'90, was held in Bressanone, Italy, in 1990.
The 2nd ESSIR (http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/essir/) was held in Glasgow,
Scotland, in 1995, in conjunction with the BCS Colloquium in Information
Retrieval, an IRIDES project meeting, and the final MIRO workshop. The 3rd
ESSIR (http://www.itim.mi.cnr.it/Eventi/essir2000/
index.htm) took place in Varenna, Italy, in 2000. The 4th
ESSIR (http://www-clips.imag.fr/mrim/essir03/) was held in Aussois, France.
ESSIR 2005 was held in Dublin, Ireland (http://www.cdvp.dcu.ie/ESSIR2005/).
The 6th ESSIR summer school was held in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2007
(http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/essir2007/). Finally, the 7th ESSIR summer school was recently held in
Padova, Italy (http://essir2009.dei.unipd.it/).
Parties interested in hosting ESSIR 2011 are invited to submit proposals, in PDF format,
