The publishers in offering
this, their first attempt at Directory work, do so with, a?
consciousness that no pains and no expense have bean spared to make the work per-
fect and complete. For canvassers they selected the very best man they could find.
In consequence of the ier'usal of some parties to give their names, who were afraid of
jury duty," the canvassers were unable to obtain several names, and in some case*
in consequence of the absence of occupants of houses the names had to be obtained
from neighbors ; hence, some names are probably wrong in spelling or initials. The
historical part of th<? work has been prepared by Myron Finch, Esq., a gentleman who
was among the earlier settlers of the place, who has been a constant resident here,
and M'hose pen needs no commendations from them. That the book is perfect they do not
claim, but they do claim a degree of perfection that will make it of great value to the
