Fire awareness update
An Awareness Message for residents in Kinglake,
Whittlesea, St Andrews, Christmas Hills was issued
at 6pm on Wednesday 25 February 2009.
The fire has been held within containment lines this week.
However, while the containment lines are strong, there is
the potential for extreme fire weather on Friday and dry
vegetation could increase the risk of fire to spread.
Residents in the communities of Arthurs Creek, Christmas
Hills, Smiths Gully, St Andrews, Strathewen and Yan
Yean need to be mindful of the hotter weather forecast for
tomorrow – Friday 27 February – and the potential for the
fire spotting beyond containment lines. Residents should
ensure they are prepared for the possibility of increased
fire activity, remain vigilant, review their Fire Plans now
and be prepared to activate them. The south-westerly
change late tomorrow afternoon is of particular concern.
Residents should only call 000 when flames are seen and
an accurate location can be given.
Continue to listen to ABC 774 or local radio for updates on
the fire situation. Current information is available on the
CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au . For information on fires
in Victoria and general fire safety advice, please contact
the Victorian Bushfire Information Line (VBIL) on freecall

Callers who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech /
communication impairment may call textphone/ telewriter
(TTY) on 1800 122 969.
